WALDKAUZ op Castlefest Winter Editie

WALDKAUZ

WALDKAUZ mixes traditional music with new instruments

WALDKAUZ is a Pagan Folk Band from Germany. Songs about ancient magic, the wisdom of nature and the ecstasy of dance. These are the themes the band sings and plays their music about. Sometimes tender, fragile and dream-like. Sometimes rhythmic, wild and demanding. What remains throughout all the songs is the motive of myth and legends handed down to us from ancient times and the power and secret they still carry with them to this date.

On instruments both new and old WALDKAUZ plays their own brand of pagan folk, mixing traditional music fom all over Europe with their own ideas to something completely new. Powerful drums meet wistful flute-melodies and sirring bouzouki riffs intertwine with mystical harp-melodies. Thus creating an ever-changing atmosphere, to both contemplate and dance.

In 2018 WALDKAUZ looks back on a four-year experience of playing together, including festivals such as Wave Gotik Treffen, Hörnerfest and Wacken Open Air. They also won the newcomer-award at the Festival Mediaval in 2016 and played many concerts at the traveling medieval fair Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum (MPS).

In march 2015 they released their first album “Komm’ mit”. In spring 2017 the band released their second album “MYTHOS” to critical acclaim.

Waldkauz are:

Gina – vocals, celtic harp, hurdy-gurdy
Peter – drums, percussion
Nina – vocals, whistles, flute
Niklas – vocals, Irish Bouzouki

WALDKAUZ plays the Yule Stage on Saturday and the Great Hall on Sunday.
